Charlie Fineman is a main character in the movie, Reign Over Me. Charlie’s disaster started after the 911, Charlie had lost his family. After the unfortunate event happened to Charlie, he also had to suffer from the mental disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder. He used to spend his weekends with his family, and his days with his wife and children. He became a social outcast after the incident. He did not contact with anyone after the death of his wife, daughters, and dog. Charlie had his own safe-zone and he would only stay in his safety zone. He showed negative reactions towards people who were actually willing to help him. Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorders are often suffering from difficulty falling or staying asleep, out bursting his anger intensionally, having difficulty on concentrating, or having hyper-vigilance (constant on “red alert”).
He should get a treatment before his mental disorder gets worse. He should have more interaction with people who are willing to listen his stories about his family. He need to get over with the death of his family. In order to do that, he needs to find people who give hope that he can start a new life with people who he loves. On the other hand, he can help people who are facing worse situation than him. In that way, he can know that he is not on the worst case, and gain hope that he can restart his life.
If I were Charlie’s friend, I will keep on introducing new people to Charlie, so that he does not feel lonely from the society. I think it is important to know that there are people who cares about Charlie and who are willing to help Charlie with true hearts. Since he is dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, he need to appeal his thoughts and feelings, then he can able to know that he is involving in the society, and no longer feel that he is alone.
